What’s the Skinny on Plus-Size Jeggings?

Plus Size Five Pocket Knit JeggingsSo many people come into my store to ask for a “skinny” jean that it almost seems like a cliché. The skinny jean doesn’t work on everyone so I try to offer what I have found to be a great alternative: the "jegging". I think they really work for plus-sizes so that is why they are My Pick of the Week: “The Skinny Jegging.”

A “jegging” is basically a combination of a legging and a jean.  It fits on the leg like a legging, but is a knit denim so it looks like a jean. Now don’t get fooled and buy a jegging with an elastic waistband. We don’t favor elastic waistbands. That is definitely not the look you want. I recommend the Svoboda Malibu Blue or Blue Stone Jegging. Jessica Svododa  tells us that “The jegging combines the look, style and wash of your favorite jean with the comfort of a knit pant!”  This jegging gives the look of the “skinny” jean but it has a 28% stretch factor that really makes it work so much better than so many jeans that are touted as “skinny jeans.” If you want that look, than the jegging is the way to go.

I asked Jessica; “Many people feel “plus size” shouldn’t be wearing skinny jeans, what do you have to say to them? “ Jessica said, ”Plain and simple, they are wrong.  So many of the "rules" written for "larger" bodies aren’t helpful. They are too general; they assume everyone has the same definition of beauty and they are paralyzing women.  If you have a Lopez-ian ass, you’re aren't going to carry off 'boy skinny'”, but you can carry off 'hourglass awesome'. Instead of doing everything you can to look skinny, focus on looking AMAZING. Every amazing is different.  Fashion isn’t about rules, fashion is supposed to be fun!  It is supposed to be an expression of your inner self.  What are you saying about yourself you are only willing to wear are black tops and black pants? Pretty boring, right?”  I can only agree that you should break the rules and wear what you want to wear if you feel that it looks good.

Jessica has also produced several new washes in boot cut jeans. I particularly like the Moody Blue Five Pocket Jean which combines all of the innovations that Svoboda has perfected this season. I often prefer to recommend a boot cut which is somewhat tapered, but without the look of the skinny jean that may not work for some plus sizes.  This is a great looking jean with light whiskering and light distressing and will be perfect to be on trend for the spring.

I asked Jessica if there was anything else she wanted to say to our readers. She said:” Yes, I'd like to say that it is up to each person to create their own individual style, and invest in your appearance. Sometimes that’s investment is literal, but the major investment is your time and emotional commitment to the cause. It’s about attitude. It’s saying, 'This is my body. And instead of trying to hide it, I am going to rock it.'"

Are you ready to rock it with your “jeggings” this spring?
