What’s Your Favorite Feel-Good Piece of Clothing?

When I was a 5’4”, 8-year-old little girl, I refused to wear blue jeans. Let’s rephrase that: I was UNABLE to wear blue jeans. Because I was tall and self-conscious and my big feet didn't fit through Guess' narrow ankle holes and this was long before the rise of 36-inch, $180 Seven for All Mankinds. So I wore skirts. All the time. Purple cotton skirts with diamond-shaped rhinestones and acid-washed denim skirts with zip-off ruffles and, my all-time favorite, an aqua leather skirt my grandpa bought me. I loved this skirt- it made me feel so beautiful and luxurious and fancy. I especially enjoyed pairing it with a red faux-silk button down, a rainbow-colored fishnet (!) belt and tan jazz dance hose. I wore this outfit all the time - and nobody stopped me, I might add - because it helped me love myself and that, in turn, made me happy.

I thought about Old Baby Blue when Glamour’s Vitamin G blog recently asked readers,“What Article of Clothing Always Makes You Feel Fabulous?”  Writer Sarah Jio blogged about black leggings and their ability to make her feel slender, sexy and comfortable, all at the same time. I, too, have hopped on the leggings bandwagon (thanks in advance for my Hanukah gift, Mom!) and agree, they somehow make me feel both laid back and on hi-blast at the same time. I’ve also written about my love of running skirts (though I’ve kind of passed out of that phase), which made me feel flirty and femme and fabulous while working out.

My current feel-good item would have to be a purple, multi-tiered dress I got from Express a year or so ago. It’s a short cotton number that can be dressed up with heels or down with sliver flat sandals, and it gives a good little flutter when I shimmy purposefully in it. Facebook friends can see me rocking it here (sorry, you have to crane your neck a bit to take it all in.) Whenever I wear this baby, I feel confident and flirty and gorgeous. Especially if I’m tan (don’t worry, it’s usually a spray tan, or an SPF 48-sanctioned, Mexico-acquired tint) and coming from a good workout.

Tell me which article of clothing makes YOU feel good? A pair of sexy stiletto boots? An awesome pair of jeans? Your wedding dress? A cutesy statement tee? An aqua leather skirt, perhaps…
