What Was Your Most Memorable Meal?

As a food lover, adventurous eater and travel fiend, I've certainly had many memorable meals. But perhaps the first memorable meal I can recall was when I was about 11 years old. My family and I were in Puerto Rico for a vacation, and we were staying in this gorgeous hotel right on the beach. One night, my dad asked the hotel concierge where we should go for dinner, and he directed us to a small local restaurant within walking distance. It wasn't a fancy place, and I ordered the pot roast, which came with rice and beans and plantains. I washed it down with a (virgin) pina colada.

That simple meal was one of the most memorable of my life - growing up in a rather mundane New Jersey suburb, I hadn't been exposed to a lot of other cuisines. I'd never had Latin-style beans and rice before, or even seen a plantain, and I'd certainly never tasted anything like the sweet, creamy pina colada. I was blown away.

We all have similar experiences, whether it's the first time you tasted a certain food, the most romantic meal ever, or perhaps a dining experience that was unforgettably awful.
