Today is the big day of the Michael Jackson memorial service at the Los Angeles Staples Center and, while some are psyched that they've managed to snag a ticket, others (a lot of others) are wondering how much this celebration of the King of Pop is costing the city.

Well, according to a city official, this public memorial has a price tag of about $2.5 million -- as of right now. And Los Angeles is footing the bill.

So, where's all the dough going?

It's being shelled out for the 1,400 police officers who will be patrolling the area of the craziness, the Department of Transportation workers who are enforcing the street closures, the Department of Public Works who's job is to keep the area clean, and Fire and rescue specialists on call in case the emotion is just too much to handle for some.

The Staples center will be filled with 11,000 ticket holders, plus 9,000 guests of the Jackson family. Not to mention the star-studded lineup of performers.

$2.5 mil is a lot of cash for a city who's in a major deficit to be throwing down for this spectacle. Do you think Michael is worth it?
