One of my personal favorites in the shop this week was a woman who came out shopping for her first Mother’s day with husband and baby in tow! They were so cute together, playing with the baby and cooing at her and making baby talk… (apologizing every so often forgetting that they were in public). She was very excited because it was her first Mother’s day as a new Mom and her husband wanted her to pick out something. He didn’t want to just buy flowers or any old thing - because he wanted her first Mother’s day to be special. She picked out a few handbags…they even showed them to the newborn and asked for her approval…they were cute and corny at the same time….and I absolutely loved it! It was a mother-daughter shopping bond from the cradle and when the baby smiled at the most expensive handbag Dad knew that he was in trouble!
Now the new Mom had the same issues that many new Moms’ have. She went up a couple of sizes after she had the baby from about a size 12 to around a size 18. She plans to lose the extra weight but that doesn’t help her now. You see, she needs a dress for Sunday’s dinner on Mother’s Day. Not two months from now…not a year from now. This is the first dress that she is trying on since the baby was born. I knew she had to get used to her new body and I needed to make her experience happy. I picked out a few body shapes that I knew she would like and she was surprised to see how fashion forward plus sizes can be. She loved the wrap dress and so did her husband and daughter – I told you they were corny…but cute!
You see she wanted to find a dress that would be great not just for
Mother’s Day but also for the baby’s christening. She chose the wrap dress in a fabulous print that brought out her eyes and flattered her skin tone. We also discussed that as she lost weight she could still wear the dress wrapping it a bit tighter, tying it in the back and eventually taking in the princess seams.
This family had a great Mothers Day shopping experience. Mom got a great new handbag and great figure flattering dress and Dad got Kudos for suggesting the shopping trip and not just picking up flowers!
Do you have a shopping plan in mind for someone you love for Mothers Day?
