birth plan, you may be faced with the limits of hospital policy the minute you are admitted. You might set aside some time to visit the maternity unit and talk to some of the nurses who work there. Talk to other women who have given birth at that hospital.

When you talk with anyone affiliated with the hospital, write down your questions so you know what to ask. By asking questions, sometimes simple ones, you make hospital staffs more aware of the growing concerns for gentle birth choices.
