The Golden Globe nominees for "Best Animated Feature" were announced this week, and from what I’ve seen and heard, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association did a pretty good job (with due respect to secret agent guinea pigs, singing chipmunks, aliens, monsters, prehistoric critters, robot boys and Jim Carrey).
The nominees are:
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Princess and The Frog
Winners will be announced at the The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 17, hosted by Ricky Gervais.
The "Best Animated Feature" category, which is only four years old, was won previously by Cars, Ratatouille and Wall-E. With the exception of the 2006 race between Cars and the execrable Happy Feet, Globe-getters in this category have pretty much been shoo-ins. This year seems thankfully more competitive.
Though Up is my favorite, I'm predicting Fox to win -- it already slyly scored "Best Animated Feature" awards from both the L.A. Film Critics Association and the New York Film Critics Circle.
As far as the year's biggest prize goes, Oscar's personal animated faves will be revealed on February 2nd.
