If you’re busily pinning your favorite holiday images to Pinterest this season, you’re now in very high-profile company. The White House has just joined the social media sharing site too!
The very first pin? The image of the Obamas’ dog, Bo, frolicking in the snow in front of the grand residence -- the same pastoral illustration that also decks the White House holiday card this year.
But more festive pins are on the way from Washington: To kick off its new online presence, the White House invited a group of its newest followers to join in for a “holiday social” at the White House on December 17. The select pinners will check out the décor, meet with the designers that brought the look alive, and even participate in a craft project -- all while pinning away.
Over the coming weeks, check back for more holiday photos, recipes, and other fun ways to engage with the First Family.
The new Pinterest account makes sense with the Obamas’ ongoing focus on social media since 2008. “It’s the People’s House. It’s a place that is steeped in history, but it’s also a place where everyone should feel welcome,” said First Lady Michelle Obama, who’s no stranger to the pinning site: She set up an account in June while her husband’s campaign was well underway.
She added, “And that's why my husband and I have made it our mission to open up the house to as many people as we can."
We like the sound of that, FLOTUS. We’ll wait for some shots of laundry on the floor or dishes in the sink to make us really feel connected! (But we’re not holding out breath.)
