There's a reason airplanes have those nifty "fasten seatbelt" signs over every row. Yet pop legend Whitney Houston apparently felt she was above the law when she attempted to hop a Delta flight from Atlanta to Detroit Wednesday afternoon -- and refused to buckle up.
Sources tell TMZ that Houston "got diva" on a flight attendant and was almost kicked off the plane. Eventually she did consent to letting a crew member buckle her in, and the airplane was cleared for takeoff.
Earlier this year, the 48-year-old singer was readmitted to rehab for drug and alcohol abuse, which is just the latest in a long history of her troubles with substance abuse. However, those close to Houston insist that she wasn't under the influence when she had her tiff on the flight.
Onesource close to Whitney tells People: "She wasn't drunk, drinking or on drugs; she was just exhausted."
Another source tells TMZ that Whitney "overreacted a little bit after missing an earlier flight, but she's still 100 percent sober and was on the way to Detroit for her first day of shooting a new movie."
That new movie is Sparkle, a remake of the 1976 musical drama of the same name, which teams Houston with singer Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps. The movie is loosely based on the rise of the 1960s girl group The Supremes, and is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
