The world might have been rocked when troubled singer Whitney Houston died on Feb. 11, but it turns out the event didn't shock her family as much as one would think.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey that will air this Sunday on Oprah's Next Chapter, the singer's sister-in-law Patricia Houston, who is married to Whitney's brother Gary, explains that she definitely saw the 48-year-old songstress' demise coming. "The handwriting was kind of on the wall. I would be kidding myself to say otherwise," she says.
But that being said, Patricia didn't feel that it would be drugs or partying that would bring the death of Houston. Instead, she was concerned about something a bit more elusive: her love life.
"It wasn't about substance abuse relative to the latter days or anything like that. I was afraid for other things... lifestyle [things]," Patricia says, adding that "things were changing, things were really changing" in her sister-in-law's life. But the problem was something bigger. "I saw her chasing a dream -- looking for love in all the wrong places," Patricia says.
While Patricia didn't name any names, the "wrong place" she could be referring to is likely Houston's longtime on-again, off-again boyfriend Ray J. The two were spotted cuddling and hanging out at Tru nightclub in Los Angeles only two days before Houston's death.
Since Whitney's passing, 31-year-old Ray J has spoken out about the fallen star, but he has not confirmed if the two were an item at the time of Houston's death. "What my heart feels cannot be expressed in words," he told Us Weekly in a statement. "The world lost an icon, but I lost my close friend. Nippy, I miss you so much! You were so happy and full of love. Your smile will live in my heart forever."
