Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars is almost over, and the current frontrunner is no other than Rob Kardashian, who blew the judges away with two terrific dances with partner Cheryl Burke, making him the one to beat going into tonight's DWTS finale, airing at 9 p.m. ET, on ABC.
After scoring a respectable 27 -- three 9s -- for his opening dance, Kardashian and Burke got their first perfect 30 of the competition for a freestyle dance that highlighted Kardashian's signature move -- the booty shake -- and featured several llifts.
"This competition is often won or lost in the freestyle round and to get a 10 you have to blow us away. Consider me blown!" raved Carrie Ann Inaba.
"You've just given your all," added Len Goodman. "Your family should be proud."
And proud they were -- with several of them bouncing for joy in the audience. Sister Kim Kardashian, who returned to the audience to watch her little brother rock finals night, took to Twitter after the show to encourage her fans to vote:
"Did u guys see that!!!!!!" she twittered after the finals. "All 10's in the freestyle!!!! OMG I swear the whole fam is in tears!!!!! Let's go baby! Team CherBert!"
J.R. Martinez, meanwhile, had to fight to overcome a low-scoring opening dance. A sentimental favorite for the mirrorball trophy, he and Karina Smirnoff scored only a 24 -- with the judges giving them a 7, 8, and 9, for their first-round cha cha. But never one to quit, the Army hero and soap star killed his salsa-inspired freestyle performance and received a perfect 30, bumping him to tie with Ricki and Derek.
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough, the most consistent couple of the competition, scored nothing but 9s during the finals, which proved that the talk-show host stands up under pressure. Without either of her dances scoring a perfect 10 from any judge, Lake may be overshadowed by her two male rivals.
Watch Rob & Cheryl's "perfect" freestyle dance below:
So, going into the second part of the finale, the leader-board results are as follows:
Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke: (27, 30) 57
J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff: (24, 30) 54
Ricki Lake & Derek Hough: (27, 27) 54
What can fans expect tonight? Well, the two-hour episode will feature the final three couples performing their favorite dances of the season. At this point, one couple will be eliminated and the survivors will samba against each other to determine the winner. Aside from all of the bitter competition, viewers will also enjoy seeing all of the cast-offs back on the dance floor, as well as a performance by Lady Antebellum.
Who will walk away victorious? We can't wait to find out!
