Oh Kendall Jenner, have your half-sisters taught you nothing?
The 17-year-old model, younger sibling to Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian, was recently shown a picture of Jonathan Taylor Thomas... and had no idea who he was.
"Only old ppl know who he is," she tweeted on Wednesday, after a friend mocked her lack of JTT knowledge.
Fortunately, we are "old people" by Kendall Jenner standards. We're old enough to have made mix tapes and called people from pay phones, once upon a time. And we're certainly old enough to remember Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Therefore, let us take a moment to enlighten Kendall with our Illustrated JTT Primer.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas was born on Sept. 8, 1981, which means he is now 31. (Kendall, if you ever want to make an "old person" feel really old, you can just drop that fact into the conversation.) But we remember him as smart-mouthed middle child Randy on Home Improvement, the hit sitcom that aired from 1991 to 1999.
On the show, Thomas played one of the three sons of comedian Tim Allen -- better known to you, Kendall, as "the voice of Buzz Lightyear." Though he was only 10 years old when he got the part, Thomas quickly became a tween heartthrob, then a full-blown teen idol. In fact, some of us over here at iVillage admit to having had a major (major!) crush on JTT and feeling that no middle school boy could ever be quite as dreamy. Let's put it this way: The way you feel about Harry Styles is the way we felt about JTT. (Okay, maybe not you, specifically. But other girls your age with less money and real-life exposure to celebrities.)
And remember, Kendall, this was before teenage girls had high-speed internet, so if they wanted to see pictures of their TV crushes, they had to buy magazines. As a result, JTT was plastered all over the bedroom walls of many a '90s girl.
Maybe you've never seen Home Improvement, Kendall, but you've seen The Lion King, right? That cute little lion who croons "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" is voiced by none other than Jonathan Taylor Thomas, at the height of his fame.
In 1998, Thomas broke many young hearts when he left Home Improvement to focus on school. He went to Harvard (where he used a pseudonym) for two years, and occasionally popped up on TV shows such as Smallville and Veronica Mars. In recent years, he's all but disappeared, except for a brief Home Improvement reunion for Entertainment Weekly in 2011.
Hope you enjoyed the history lesson, Kendall! Next time we'll teach you all about Joey Lawrence. But in the meantime, check out these photos of JTT during his prime. And if you have any more questions about him, we're guessing Khloe or Kim might have an old issue of Tiger Beat lying around somewhere that you could borrow.
