Mitt Romney needs to watch what he says about Whoopi Goldberg. The View moderator was shocked to learn that she'd been singled out by Romney in the leaked fundraiser video that has been making headlines this week. In part of the video, the Republican Presidential candidate explains why he doesn't like going on The View, which he calls a "high-risk" platform because of the hosts' liberal views.
"Four [of the hosts] are sharp-tongued and not conservative, Whoopi Goldberg in particular," Mitt says in the hidden-camera video. "Although the last time I was on the show, she said to me, 'You know what? I think I could vote for you.' I said, 'I must have done something really wrong.'"
Goldberg took the comments to heart, and replied with a scathing Twitter rant about how Romney lost her vote.
"Tweet to Mitt Romney, I once had a great deal of respect for you and many of ur stances," wrote the comedienne. "You believed like Teddy Kennedy in healthcare and a woman's right to choose and u seemed to actually care about ur people. That was the man I said was someone worth voting for & I said it publicly."
"Today I understand that while talking to like minded folks, you took a respectful observation and wondered what you had done wrong to garner that kind of interest from me," she continued. "Well Mr Romney, the man I was talking about turned into a man who flushed his ideals down the drain, only to emerge a confused candidate, confused about what he really stands for and WHO he stands for."
The talk-show host then criticized Romney for flip-flopping on women's rights and universal health care, calling him "a man who sheds ideas faster than a snake sheds skin."
"Yes once I thought there was the possibility of a moderate republican who could make the race with Obama at least interesting," she concluded. "But that was Months ago before your desperation to be Presedent made u forget your ideals. Yes sir a long time thought you might be an interesting. I thought you were more like ur dad & then u opened ur mouth & I realized u were nothing like him."
The other "sharp-tongued" ladies of The View addressed Romney's comments during Wednesday's show. (Watch the video below.) Sherri Shepherd was indignant, saying, "If I may make a football analogy, this is just preseason, this is an exhibition game. If you can’t handle four sharp-tongued women, how are you going to handle the country?"
Barbara Walters responded by inviting Mitt and Ann Romney onto the show in October -- an offer that they accepted, via a statement to the show's one conservative host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Should be interesting -- especially if Whoopi is in the moderator chair!
