It's been a few weeks since Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez called it quits for good (or so it seems). After two years as teen pop's golden couple, the single life must be quite an adjustment for Biebomez -- er, Justilena. (Maybe their lack of a good portmanteau, a la Robsten or Brangelina, was the final straw.) So how are Justin, 18, and Selena, 20, weathering the break-up? We decided to look at what both performers have been up to lately, and determine who's bouncing back faster.
It's good to have friends around when things get tough. To cope with the split, Selena has been spending a lot of time with two of her best pals, Taylor Swift, 23, and Vanessa Hudgens, 24. "It’s helped having Taylor and Vanessa both be older than me," she told People on Saturday. "They’ve kind of experienced a little bit more, and at the same time we’re experiencing the exact same things together."
As for Justin, he recently went out with music producer Jamal Rashid, aka Mally Mall, and got matching tattoos of the Roman numerals for 1975. He also retweeted a photo of himself hanging out with Taylor Hicks.
Who's doing better? Selena. Vanessa and Taylor are loyal longtime friends; Justin seems to be hanging out with whoever happens to be around.
Everybody goes a little wild when they're newly single, right? On Saturday, Justin got naughty on Instagram, flashing his bare butt to millions of fans. Selena took a different approach, performing covers of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" and Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" at a benefit show -- both clearly intended to dis Justin.
Who's doing better? We were going to say Justin (because a sense of humor is the best defense against heartache), but then we remembered those marijuana photos -- so maybe his coping mechanisms aren't so healthy. Selena wins.
PURSUING OTHER INTERESTS
Both Selena and Justin are busy gearing up for their next career moves. Justin has his Believe Acoustic album and a potential film project with Mark Wahlberg, while Selena has her own upcoming album and the bikini-clad crime thriller Spring Breakers.
Who's doing better? Selena's movie has great buzz, while Justin's may not even happen. On the other hand, Justin's acoustic album seems promising, while Selena has yet to share any material from her own record. We'll call it a draw.
We all know that Justin has been hanging out with other women, including Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin -- though he hasn't been spotted with anyone lately.
Fortunately, Selena has her own thing going on. On Saturday, she was seen partying with a "scruffy young guy" until the wee hours of the morning.
Who's doing better? Selena. Justin seems to have cooled it with Barbara Palvin, who claimed she wasn't into him, anyway. And Selena looked really happy as she was hopping into a car with her mystery man at 2:30 a.m.
In conclusion, Selena Gomez seems to be handling this break-up like a champion, supporting our theory that she's better off without The Biebs. Whether Justin is better off without her -- well, that remains to be seen.
