Ding dong, the witch is dead! Depending on your point of view, that sentiment might refer to Mariah Carey's departure from the American Idol judging panel on Thursday. Or it could be aimed at Nicki Minaj, who announced her own decision to leave, just two hours after Carey did.
At 2:07 pm, Carey's PR firm sent out this message:
At 4:13 p.m., Minaj followed up with her own farewell:
Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn't trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) May 30, 2013
Fox sent out releases immediately after these tweets appeared, praising Carey for her "wisdom and experience" and Minaj for her "honesty and passion."
Both women are embarking on new projects, with Carey heading out on a world tour and Minaj taking on her first major movie role (since voicing Steffie the mammoth in Ice Age: Continental Drift).
Oh yeah. No problem. Let's just hope the movie's director will provide Minaj with someone to feud with. Clearly, she's at her best when her claws are out.
Meanwhile, there's no word yet on her next thespian project, despite her recent revelation to MTV News that acting is her first love. But we have a suggestion. Grumpy Cat just signed a movie deal. Maybe she might prove a suitable opponent for the fire-breathing Minaj!
