Kristin Davis, best known as Charlotte from Sex and the City, looks fantastic in a mix-and-match bikini on the May cover of Fitness magazine. But Davis, 45, says she's not as confident in a skimpy swimsuit as she may appear.
"I'm not going to lie. It was very intimidating," she tells Fitness when asked about the photo shoot. "There are people who feel comfortable in bathing suits, and I don't know how they do it. I worked with Kristen Bell and Malin Akerman on the movie Couples Retreat, and they didn't care about standing around in their bikinis for days."
While Davis may still be bashful on the beach, the actress has learned the benefits of embracing her curves. "I have hips!" she says, unashamed. "I'm never going to be the thinnest actress, and I don't want to be. When you're at peace with yourself and your body, you're automatically more confident."
As for that tight tummy, she attains it by working out every day, eating lots of salads ("But if all I ate were salads every day, I'd shoot myself"), and hiking with her dogs. Unlike her character Charlotte, she's not a runner; Davis says that she used to jog seven miles a day while filming Melrose Place, until ankle injuries forced her to take a break.
The actress does have one fitness advantage that the rest of us don't: Sex and the City 2 costar Sarah Jessica Parker, who introduced Davis to her favorite gym. But the two rarely work out together. "Sarah Jessica doesn't need a support buddy," says Davis. "She's one of the most motivated people I've ever met, and she has an amazing body even when she doesn't work out; though like the rest of us, she doesn't feel that way."
