Ever awaken from a particularly vivid dream and wonder what the heck it meant – why, for example, there was an elephant camped out in your living room? Or a mysterious key lying on the kitchen counter?
For eons, human beings have wondered and theorized about the function and meaning of dreams, and while there’s been no real consensus about what particular dreams mean or even why we dream at all, it’s fun to try to understand what items and scenarios that commonly crop up during sleep might represent.
Take that random key, for example. Keys often stand for power, and so to lose keys in a dream may symbolize being out of control. By the same token, when your own lost keys turn up in a dream, it may mean that you’ve acquired power over a given situation. As for finding a key that previously had no meaning for you? In a dream like this, you are probably searching for options to identify new potential within yourself or in relationship to others.
