Why Eminem Doesn't Date

Ten years ago, Eminem was the biggest name in hip-hop -- and somewhat of a bad-boy heartthrob. After becoming overwhelmed by his own success and taking a break from fame, Marshall Mathers is back on the charts -- but he's not the same irreverent young guy who used to call himself Slim Shady. In a revealing Rolling Stone cover interview, Mathers, 38, admits that he has serious trust issues, especially when it comes to women.

"You always wonder what their real motives are," Mathers tells the magazine. "I’ve got a small circle of friends, and it’s a lot of the same friends I’ve known forever. Right now, that works for me. I came out of some difficult things these past couple of years."

When asked if he's dating, the single rapper says that it's too difficult for him to get to know women.

"As far as going out, like dinner and a movie -- I just can't," he says. "Going out in public is just too crazy. I mean, I'd like to be in a relationship someday... It's just hard to meet new people, in my position."

Who knew that this sensitive soul was lurking behind Eminem's brash lyrics? The guy has experienced his share of damage since he became famous, including a rocky on-again-off-again relationship with ex-wife Kim, a prescription drug addiction, and a lawsuit filed against him by his own mother.

Fortunately, Eminem still has a few people in his life whom he trusts -- including Elton John and 50 Cent. Mathers says that Elton John supported him when he was first trying to get sober, and still "calls me once a week to check on me." He also credits John with teaching him how to "see nature." (Can we get an "aww" for that one?) As for 50 Cent, he actually has a dedicated room in Eminem's house for whenever he's in town. Sounds like Eminem is actually doing pretty well, all things considered -- just a little damaged and a little bit lonely. We think he should ask Elton John to set him up with a nice (sober) British lady. That guy is friends with everybody, right?
