Why It's Smart to Shop for Off-Season Items Now

The sale section at Shopbop proves that off-season fashions can be found for a steal

I just love Shopbop. The assortment of clothing and accessories are to die for, and the roster of designers they carry is super long and super fabulous. The site also has some amazing editors who pull together funky looks for every occasion. (If you haven't signed up for the site's daily newsletter, definitely do so now!) Of course, this high fashion comes at a price, so I'm always thrilled when I can find something great in Shopbop's huge sale section.

The best part about the sale section is that they sort it into three neat categories: 30 percent off, 50 percent off, and a whopping 70 percent off in the clearance section. And unlike clearance sections at some stores, Shopbop's actually has some awesome stuff by high-end designers you know and love -- the only catch being that you might have to buy something you can't really wear this season. Check out my two favorite recent finds:

The Plaid Back Button Boyfriend Shirt (shown at rights; on sale for $49.50) demonstrates the power in purchasing off-season fashion. This ultrasoft lightweight flannel is meant to be a fall and winter closet staple, and had you bought it back then, you would have paid top dollar (the shirt was originally $165). Scooping this shirt up now in early spring saves you big bucks! It'll also make a cute swimsuit coverup for summer -- and can't you picture it looking cozy when worn by a beach bonfire on your summer trip?

I'm also grabbing this Power Vest Dress by BARLOW (just $75). The sleeveless dress has a chic, flattering cut, and I'm loving the wrap style and notched collar, plus the funky zipper. Its velour fabric is luxurious and dressy -- I'd wear this over opaque black tights and some fun platform heels to a holiday happy hour or cocktail party. And because I'm buying this off-season, I'm saving myself $175 -- the dress was originally $250. Score!
