If you're a network executive who'd like to hire Anderson Cooper, well, take a number. The beloved host of Anderson Cooper 360 seems to be fielding an offer for a new professional project every day. As of this week, producers have considered hiring the 45-year-old newsman to 1) replace Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek when he retires next year; 2) replace Today host Matt Lauer before the end of the year; and 3) co-host a new CNN show with his long-time friend Kathy Griffin. And that's just the offers we've heard about.
Assuming he's seriously considering any of these three options, which job suits him best? Based on his news and interviewing experience, the Today anchor job would be the easiest transition and the most comfortable fit. But sources close to Cooper told The Hollywood Reporter that "he is not interested in trading globetrotting for 4 a.m. wake up calls."
Of the three potential choices, the Jeopardy! hosting gig is the most far-fetched. Fact is, Cooper is a guy who recently swam with crocodiles. Standing behind a podium, reading off trivia questions, doesn't sound like an enticing job for someone who enjoys the near-death thrills of his current job!
So the hour-long CNN show with Griffin seems the most likely of his potential career moves. This would enable Cooper to stay at his exciting post at CNN, while adding something extra. The pair's New Year's Eve specials -- which feature the naughty Griffin taunting the amiable Cooper as he tries to maintain a modicum of professionalism -- have scored solid ratings for the network. And according to Deadline, the pair filmed a pilot "with a lot of humor in it" in front of a live audience, which means this project might actually happen.
Granted, Griffin caught some flak for being needlessly vulgar during their most recent New Year's Eve special. With a regular, ongoing show, CNN would have to force her to contain her, ahem, exuberance! But as this clip shows, these two have an easy way together. And the more objectionable Griffin seems, the more lovable Cooper gets!
