What could be more perfect than having a stage production of the 2003 holiday classic Elf hit Broadway just in time for the Christmas season?
Will Ferrell's hit movie is being made into a Broadway musical, set to run in New York City beginning in November. Writer Thomas Meehan told the New York Times that Elf the Musical is in "very good shape, very fun shape." The production will set up at the Al Hirschfeld Theater and run through New Year's Day.
"It's hard to imagine a more ideal show to run over the holidays," said Meehan, who has won Tony Awards for his work on Hairspray, Annie and The Producers. The music for the new show will come from Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, who worked together on a 2006 musical adaptation of Adam Sandler's film The Wedding Singer.
The show's lead role of Buddy, the loving human raised as an elf, has not yet been cast.
