UPDATE: MTV confirms that Kanye West will be performing at the 2010 VMAs.
There are certain moments from past MTV Video Music Awards broadcasts that will forever be engraved in our minds: the 1994 Michael Jackson/Lisa Marie Presley public makeout session; Madonna's eyebrow-raising performance of Like a Virgin in 1984, in which she writhed around on stage in a wedding a dress; and definitely last year's shocker when Kanye West so rudely interrupted Taylor Swift as she attempted to accept her award for best female video.
Most viewers will remember Kanye's classless interruption speech for years to come. "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm going to let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time," the 32-year-old rapper said, after he jumped on stage in the middle of Swift's speech. "One of the best videos of all time!"
So, is MTV really going to allow West back into this year's show? Seems that way, as a source says that West will not only appear at the awards ceremony, but that he will perform, as well.
The Grammy-winning rapper's untitled fifth studio album is expected to drop this fall. He debuted a video "painting" for the first single, "Power," on MTV last Thursday, and a follow-up single is also expected to be released in the next few weeks.
Swift is likely to appear, as well, and knowing MTV, they'll have the twosome do some sort of skit together. Maybe Swift can cut the sound on West in the middle of his performance. Wouldn't that be nice revenge?
Neither MTV nor West's people would comment on whether or not Mr. Outspoken will appear. The MTV Video Music Awards will air on Sept. 12.
