"Everything is getting more than what I can control," says Khloe Kardashian in the promo clip for the season finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians (Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on E!). Watch here:
Hmmm. Might Khloe be referring to the tabloid-fueling antics of her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, these past several months? His alleged extramarital affairs? His failed rehab attempt for his reported addictions to cocaine, crack or Oxycontin? His strange disappearances?
Who knows? Khloe's public dirty laundry hasn't yet shown up on the show this season. We've seen her consider adoption, hunt aliens, try to raise a dog and referee fights between Kris and Kylie Jenner, but we haven't seen her make any decisions about her marriage to Odom. Will it happen in the finale? The promo gives no indication that it will.
There has always been a trippy, time-warpy appeal to the Kardashians, whose lives we follow in two dimensions. Their drama plays out in real time, carried on the wings of tabloid TV and magazines. But much later, we watch yesterday's gossip play out on the show. (After weekly -- nay, daily -- real-time updates on Kim Kardashian's pregnancy, for instance, viewers got to see it play out later, in Season 8.) What can we expect from the finale, when they've spent the whole season ignoring what the fans already know about Khloe's relationship?
The promo promises only that brother Rob Kardashian (who has been in a funk for several weeks) will announce his intent to move out. And we're prepped for Kylie's Sweet 16 party, where Scott Disick -- surprise! surprise! -- behaves irresponsibly. But Scott's misbehavior can't possibly provide the big drama that Kardashian season finales require. (His acting like a gentleman would be more of a shocker.)
And it wouldn't be totally out of character for the Kardashians to choose the season finale as the desired time to address the end of a relationship. Khloe has kept us guessing about the state of her love life all season. Could the divorce announcement pop up in its final moments? Sadly, we wouldn't put it past Kris Jenner to stage it that way.
