Mix two parts Finding Nemo, one part Saved by the Bell, a quarter-part SpongeBob, and three zillion parts Disney Channel marketing, and you have Fish Hooks, an animated comedy series in production right now from the House of Mouse.
Created by kids' book illustrator Noah Z. Jones, the series will be about three teen fish who live in a typical teen universe within a giant pet store tank. To me, they look like talking Band-Aids, but whatever. I like Jones' work, especially Almost Naked Animals.
Fish Hooks will combine 2-D animation with “photo collage techniques” (Was this produced by Disney or Snapfish?) and feature familiar voices including Kyle Massey (Cory in the House), Chelsea Staub (JONAS) and Justin Roiland (The Sarah Silverman Program).
Disney says the three aqua-lescents, Milo, Oscar and Bea, will experience the “challenges and triumphs of tween life, like friendship, dating and sports.” They left out even more typical Disney star moments like dropping hit singles, making inappropriate tweets, and cross-marketing, but give these fish some time.
Your kids can start baiting their hooks in the Fall of 2010.
