This week we're loving Today show host Meredith Vieira. By now the newswoman has more than proven her skills as a reporter. But this week she showed she has a sense of humor, too.
Meredith and her Today cohorts traded cashmere for polyester and traveled to 1974 for a funky photo shoot. On Monday's show they treated audiences to a sneak preview of the pictures, which appeared in this week's 35th anniversary issue of PEOPLE. The shoot was a fun way for the anchors to let loose, but in a houndstooth dress and side-swept bangs Meredith actually pulled off the look.
Then Meredith switched gears for an exclusive one-on-one with Kate Gosselin. In serious-journalist mode, Meredith sat down with the mom of eight as she confirmed tabloid rumors that ex Jon had secretly emptied their joint bank account. Though Kate was emotional, Meredith wasn't afraid to tactfully ask the tough questions.
The next night, viewers of The Jay Leno Show caught an unexpected glimpse of Meredith when he played a review of the her long-running career. But true to form, the comedian added in a fake clip of Meredith hosting the Naked News in the buff. The most amusing part wasn't Jay's joke itself, but Meredith's reaction when Al Roker surprised her with the clip Wednesday morning. Her reaction to seeing it for the first time was shock, but the good-natured host played along, saying, "Wow, I feel so liberated!"
It's refreshing to know this not-so-buttoned-up host can really take a joke!
