To maintain your weight, you need about an hour of heart-pumping exercise five times a week, according to the American Council on Exercise (ACE). “If you don’t have a full hour, shorter bouts of exercise are just as beneficial as one chunk,” says Jessica Matthews, exercise physiologist for ACE. Upton recommends a mix of light aerobic exercise for endurance such as jogging or swimming, high-intensity exercise like sprinting or jump-rope to torch calories, and strength training with weights or resistance bands to maintain muscle mass.
