“I Touch Myself” by The Divinyls
Whether you’re sitting across from one another at a restaurant table or sitting next to one another in the car, these overtly sexual lyrics can make any date get awkward real fast.
“When I think about you / I touch myself” isn’t necessarily a confession I’d ever make to my date…at least in public. Neither is, “I’d get down on my knees/I’d do anything for you.” How about getting UP and changing this song?
“Call Your Girlfriend” by Robyn
Any song about cheating? Umm, next!
“Break Your Heart” by Taio Cruz
He admits that he’s going to break your heart and that he is hard to please -- is this an omen? He even admits he’s “got a problem with misbehavin’.” Dating is awkward enough as it is, and you don’t need a song playing to fuel any insecurities you might already have.
“Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood
Let’s hope your date doesn’t ever find out what you would do if you ever caught him cheating.
“It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy
“Picture this, we were both butt naked, banging on the bathroom floor.” Thanks for the visual, Shaggy. Just lost my appetite.
“I Need A Girl” by P. Diddy
The over-all meaning is nice: Diddy wants a girl so he can bring her home to momma and put a ring on it. Very sweet, except when he starts getting into the fact that he needs a girl to “ride, ride, ride.” Sure to make the ride home a little awkward.
“OPP” by Naughty by Nature
This song is the epitome of a conversation you wouldn’t want to have on a date, especially if you were in the middle of an intimate moment. It is literally about a guy having sex with another guy’s girlfriend. You down with changing this song? Yeah, you know me.
“Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye
A classic, sure, but a classic awkward date song, too. Kind of hard to focus on a deep conversation while a song is suggesting you do the nasty. I just want to get it on with my cabernet right now, okay Marvin?
“Like a Virgin” by Madonna
“Hey, I have no idea what I’m doing. Wanna make out?!”
“Stacey’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne
This will never not be awkward to listen to on a date, because honestly, who wants to be thinking about their mom while they’re on a date, much less in that kind of context?
