When country star Wynonna Judd said "I do" to drummer Cactus Moser on June 10, something was missing -- and it wasn't something borrowed or blue. Wynonna's very famous mother and sister, singer Naomi Judd and actress Ashley Judd, were conspicuously absent from her wedding. That's because Wynonna didn't invite them.
"We just don't have a lot of contact right now, if any, because we're all doing our own thing," the bride told Us Weekly.
How estranged is the singer from her relatives? Wynonna got married on the family farm, where both Naomi and Ashley also have homes -- but Wynonna says she's "not even sure" if either of them were home at the time.
"Mom is at 11 o'clock, Ashley is like at 1 o'clock, and I'm at 6 o'clock," she said of the family farm's layout. "Ashley's probably so busy with [husband] Dario [Franchitti] having won the Indianapolis 500, she probably doesn't even know [that I got married]."
Well that's sad. Tensions have been high in the Judd family for a long time, but things seem to have reached a breaking point last year when Ashley published her memoir, All Things Sweet and Bitter. In the book, the Missing actress described a childhood full of pain, abuse and neglect. The fallout left Wynonna, 48, caught in between Naomi, 66, and Ashley, 44. Now, says Wynonna, they all have some damage control to do.
"I'm getting ready to have a meeting with Ashley, and re-do our family contract, and re-set our boundaries," Wynonna explained. "It's just really healthy."
At the moment, though, it doesn't sound like things are too healthy. Wynonna was concerned that if she invited her mother and sister to the wedding, they would have made her feel "self-conscious."
"If I know Ashley, she would have repositioned my dress, or Mom would have given me a Kleenex to stuff in my bra, or told me, I have something in my teeth," she said. "I just didn't want that. I just wanted to get married!"
Not all the members of the Judd family were excluded from the wedding. Wynonna's two children from her first marriage (this is her third) -- Grace, 16, and Elijah, 17 -- were present, along with Moser's three kids. And as for as Wynonna was concerned, that's everyone who really needed to be there.
"To me, at the end of the day, it's the children, Cactus, and me," said the country star. "I was so concerned about making this feel special for them, everything fell away."
