Yoga’s not just for grown-ups! Kids can benefit from the bendy moves as well. Besides improving flexibility and balance and increasing muscle strength, yoga has a slew of physical and emotional payoffs for old and young yogis alike, from aiding digestion and sleep to enhancing self-esteem and mood, according to certified yoga instructor Jillian Moriarty, author of Live Happily Ever Active and creator of the “On the Move Munchkins” DVD series.
Moriarty, who designed the kid-friendly yoga routine that follows, says that parents can participate or simply guide the way. Grab a towel or mat and go at your child’s (and your own) pace. And if you mess up, just say “Swaha!” -- yogi Sanskrit for “‘Whatever!”
