The allure of a fragrance is not lost on a man or woman. In fact, the power of a scent is what some relationships are based on. Such was the case for Estelle Campenni -- she knew she would marry her now husband the moment she smelled him.
Scents are powerful, that's for sure. But, who knew that some of our favorite fragrances would have the same effect on wild cats like cheetahs and tigers? According to the Wall Street Journal, zoos have been spraying "perfumes and colognes on rocks, trees and toys in an effort to keep confined animals curious."
Bronx Zoo general curator Pat Thomas put this to the test. He worked with 24 different fragrances on two cheetahs and recorded how long it took them to be fascinated by what they were smelling back in 2003. So, how did some perfumes make out?
• Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men: 11.1 minutes
• Nina Ricci's L'Air du Temps: 10.4 minutes
• Revlon's Charlie: 15.5 seconds
• Estee Lauder's Beautiful: 2 seconds

Thomas found that Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men, which to this day is still a top-selling men's fragrance since it launched in 1986, did wonders on a Siberian tiger at the zoo, as well. Sasha blissfully cuddled up to a tree sprayed with the stuff, he told the Wall Street Journal. "Roan Balas McNab, a Wildlife Conservation Society program director in Guatemala, has been using Obsession for Men since 2007 to help study jaguars in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, a protected tropical forest spanning 8,100 square miles," according to the article.
I guess we have more in common with wild animals than we thought! Another lesson learned: Next time you're headed for the jungle, don't wear perfume!
