Baby's First Year

Babies Born Early
If you've got a premature baby, you can expect him to develop in the same sequence as full-term babies, but the timing will probably differ. The rule of thumb for accounting for the variance in timing is easy: For a premature baby, subtract the length of prematurity from his age. For example, if your two-month-old baby was born one month early, his development should probably be compared to a one-month-old’s. For more specific guidance, discuss your baby’s expected rate of development with a pediatrician, pediatric nurse practitioner or developmental specialist.
