Today's mantra: Live like a rock star and get lit! (No, not inebriated -- we're talking about splurging on a quality scented candle.) One thing celebrities seem to have in common is a love of high-end scented candles. At $25 to $65 or so, they definitely cost more than, say, drug or discount store versions, but the celebrity crush-fest is not just because stars have money to burn. The scents tend to be way more sophisticated and true, made with real essential oils, not cheap imitations that smell unpleasantly synthetic. (Because really, aren't you worth more than a $4 candle with a label that shouts Morning Dew? What exactly is Morning Dew supposed to smell like, anyway?)
Fancy candles are also generally beautiful, packaged in swanky glasses and made with clean-burning, lead-free wicks. Some tony brands feature died-and-gone-to-heaven aromas, like the Thymes's Apricot Quince; Jo Malone's Lime, Basil & Mandarin; Diptyque's Baies Noires (a blend of black currant and Bulgarian roses) and Ergo's 100% Cotton.
With kids running around, chances are you won't light them every single day anyway, so you can justify the splurge by savoring them on those "let's banish the kids to Grandma's" nights. Your nose and soul will thank you.
