Your Pregnancy Month-by-Month

The thrill of seeing that positive result on your pregnancy test can be quickly followed by panic at the thought of everything you need to get done before the baby arrives -- nine months (okay, ten) never seemed so short. But don't freak out -- just follow this list of what to do each month of pregnancy so that you can spend your pregnancy relaxing and resting up for the months of sleep deprivation ahead.

Month 1 (Weeks 0 to 4)

-- Buy prenatal vitamins (or get an Rx from your doc) and then pop one every day.

-- If you’re a big coffee or soda drinker, cut back to one or two cups per day now. Some studies suggest that too much caffeine may increase your risk of miscarriage.

-- Make a plan to exercise most days (today!) even if it’s just a walk around the block. Schedule it in on your work calendar so you get a reminder.

-- If you don’t already have an ob/gyn (or you’re not thrilled with the one you have), send a note to friends today to get referrals.

-- Read the fine print on your (or your partner’s) health insurance policy to familiarize yourself with all the details of your plan’s maternity coverage. How much do they pay for?

-- Talk with your doctor about any prescriptions or OTC meds you’re taking and discuss whether they need to be changed or suspended during pregnancy.
