Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Hungarian-born socialite and actress who rose to fame in the '60s, was rushed to the hospital on Saturday night after a "very bad" fall. According to her spokesperson, the 93-year-old star was "watching her favorite show, Jeopardy, when the phone rang. She reached over to pick it up and fell." Gabor's husband, 64-year-old German prince Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, dialed an ambulance and had her rushed to an L.A. hospital.
Gabor reportedly broke several bones and is scheduled for hip replacement surgery on Monday.
Gabor is known for her glamorous image, her nine marriages and her hilarious quips ("I am a marvelous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man I keep his house."). She remained feisty through old age; in 1989, at the age of 72, she gained new notoriety for slapping a police officer who pulled her over for a traffic violation. But this past decade has been difficult for the Hollywood grande dame. She's been partially paralyzed since a 2002 car accident, and has used a wheelchair ever since. In 2005, she reportedly suffered a massive stroke and underwent heart surgery.
Zsa Zsa is a star from a different era, when celebrities were far more distant and protected from their fan base, and everyday people knew little about their real lives. We don't even know Zsa Zsa's real age! While the popular consensus is 93, her date of birth is estimated to be sometime between 1917 and 1919. Even as an aging star, she still has that aura of glamour; we bet she's calling everybody in the hospital "darling" right now. And we hope she recovers quickly!
